The background prediction is generally higher and is much higher for the opposite sign final states.

I plot 4 of the ratio tables below that were used to create the dimuon background prediction.
Most of the contribution from the opposite sign comes from R(h,+-). We can compare the ratios obtained from the tables above:
R(l,++) = 4.95 e-04
R(h,++) = 1.04 e-02
R(l,+-) = 3.65 e-03
R(h,+-) = 4.44 e-02
We would obtain the observed opposite sign yield if R(h,+-)=9.1 e-03 – approximately 3*R(l,+-).
