Since I was unable to get the gb nics working with linux, I tried getting one to work with Windows. I took out all the pci cards in a Windows machine, put in the gb nic and installed the driver. Transferring a file from the raid system, using sftp (because it was already installed) took about 4 minutes for a 1gb file. This was a transfer rate of around 4MB/s. It appears that the gb nic doesn’t work properly in Windows either. Though, on the gb switch, the light that indicates gb speeds was lit for the windows machine. Too bad the speeds didn’t correspond.
